United National Tenants Organisation Of Kenya

UNTOK is a registered National Tenants' Organization meant to address, mediate and or solve tenants problems and safeguard against forceful evictions and harassment of tenants by landlords and or their agents. Other aims of the organization include:

1. To sensitize the tenants on their rights
2. To legally represent tenant members freely on the tenancy problems.
3. To develop good relationship between the tenants and landlords
4. To realize good quality and affordable housing and residential environment to Kenyan Tenants.
5. To influence the decision-makers and the government or better tenancy terms, conditions and protection.
6. To encourage the establishment of local tenant associations.
7. Representing tenants at related fora e.g. seminars, workshops, boards and committees.
8. To improve the economic and social conditions of all tenants regardless of whether a member tenant is employed or not.
9. To establish advisory legal centres for tenants.
10. To recruit members.

    United Grassroot Self Help Organization

    The United Grassroots initiative came into being in January 2001, Five (5) community based organizations requested for advice to have effective progress in their projects. The projects included:

    1. Empowerment of women and youth through skill training.
    2. Access to marketing for products we are making e.g. handicrafts, hand made tie & dye clothes, screen-printed clothes etc.
    3. Jua Kali training for the out of school youth.
    4. Accessing basic education to disadvantaged children.
    5. Initiating water projects in the outskirts of the city.
       
       A launch took place to inform other stakeholders and development partners on what UGO was doing at community level. The objective was to seek for technical assistance.
