He is also a senior partner in the firm Saad Yahya and Associates which undertakes international consultancies in East, Central and Southern Africa mainly in the field of Land policy, Planning, Housing and Project financing. Professor Yahya's community work includes directorships and advisory positions in a number of charities in Kenya. | Name: Mr. Amin Gwaderi Occupation: Director, House of Manji Profile: Amin Gwaderi, a civil engineer by training has worked on materials research in the UK with Taylor Woodrow Construction Ltd and the British Standards Institution. He has been engaged in both conventional and systems building design and construction in the UK, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates, over a period of some twenty years. This was followed by nine years as Commercial Director of the House of Manji Group in Nairobi during which time he was also responsible for the Group's financial systems and building activities. He then became Chief Executive of the House of Manji Foundation with a commitment to commercializing development. In this capacity he is the private sector representative on committees of UNICEF, Habitat, the Africa 200 Network of the UNDP as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the Kenya Freedom from Hunger Council and the National School Feeding Council of Kenya. He is a long-term director of PRIDE AFRICA with a primary interest in project investment and micro finance. Previous positions held have been as Chairman of the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board, Nairobi, Director of the African Medical Research and Education Foundation (AMREF) and Chairman of the Friends of AMREF. | Name: Mr. Elijah Agevi Occupation: Regional Director, Intermediate Technology Development Group-East Africa Profile: Mr. Agevi has over 20 years' experience in development and dissemination of alternative building materials and technologies, in lobbying and advocating for pro-poor people-centred building and planning standards, regulations and policies. A graduate of Masters of Arts in regional and urban planning from the University of Nairobi Mr. Agevi was one of the founding members of Shelter Forum. He has been instrumental in establishing a series of networks that seek to put the Shelter issues of the poor on the national and international agenda. He has been an active player in the whole process of Habitat II and Nairobi Informal Settlements Co-ordination Committee, National Committee on Human Settlements, Basin etc. Mr. Elijah Agevi is currently the Treasurer in the Shelter Forum Board. | Name: Ms. AnnWanjiru Occupation: Chairperson, NAVIKU Profile: Anne in social work dates back to 1993 when she joined a self-help group known as Nyakinyua. Nyakinyua self-help group introduced her to the concept of self-help and self-sustainability. Before long, the self-help management discovered her special ability in public speaking, community mobilization and most importantly problem solving. In 1997 when Nairobi self-help groups and other stakeholders wanted to bring together self-help groups in Nairobi, being born and raised in the slum she was the best person for the job. In the first year, she managed to start with 24 self-help groups. Two years down the line, NAVIKU, which Anne is the chairperson now boasts of 62 self-help groups. Evans Goro Occupation: Consulting Engineer Profile: Evans Goro is a 42 year old Kenyan with Masters of Science in Civil Engineering (specialising in Geotechnical Engineering thus Roads, Foundation & Soils) and a degree in Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering) Second class honours (upper division). He has undertaken Civil and Structural designs and construction supervision of projects of various magnitudes including tower office blocks, estates, institutions, block of flats, maisonettes, industrial premises, shopping centres and roads. He has also been called upon to inspect and assess the condition of various existing structures and make recommendations in each case. He is quite experienced in the public sector management. Presently, he is actively involved in the Association of Local Government Authorities of Kenya where he is the Secretary General. He is also experienced in local government finance and administration and in addition he has also carried out studies on fiscal management, infrastructure development and formulated financing and institutional mechanisms for community based water and sanitation programmes and neighbourhood initiatives.
